Few days ago, my brother gave me the news that I was listed as one of the refs to report for duty for this November’s Paintball World Cup Asia 2008 in Kuala Lumpur. Well, it’s time to refresh my memories back with all the rules and regulations once again and yes, time to train myself. That’s the magic word - “training”.

Why train when I am only the ref, not the player?

1st - Imagine being under the hot sun and cover almost hundred games per day for more than 7 hours, less than 20minutes lunch break and to endure the shots from 0.68 calibre paintballs for free for 3 days straight.

2nd - Yes, we need to be fit and had the stamina to run, shout, jump, slide, roll on the ground and to have a good eye to minimise the bad calls.

3rd - As a lady, I need to work twice harder than the guys in the field…most likely I will be the only lady ref this year. Last year there were two - Gracy and me but this year Gracy will be playing with the Splatzoner.

4th - To be mentally prepared for any worst case scenarios.

So, as the story goes, there is this moron who look for me at the MIRC main channel and asked why I log in late last night. I told him that I came back late from KK Paintball Centre and was tired from joining the Splatzoners for team training, so I took a little rest before log into the internet. Then he asked me “You play?” I honestly replied “No, I’m going to ref this year.” then he said “cheh, I thought you play. Ref saja pulak. Need to train meh?” Who is he to underestimate the importance of paintball refs? Morons like this always thought that referees didn’t make any role in a game.

So I told him that the reason why I need to train. Then he replied “I used to be under the sun for 8 hours for 3 months when I represent Sabah for the below 18 football team.”

‘Used to’? Hello…..Come back to reality~~ did I told him that I ‘used to’? I am doing these stuff in the present time and he’s comparing me with his past. Live on lah…You play whatever sport that is, please have respect to other people. Your past glory is your past. Anyway, if you think that you are so good, you won’t be just stuck there when you are 18 right? You can still climb until now you might still in the sport…but you are not, and stuck there as a useless creep. So????

Your past glory is your past glory la…why wanna compare with my time now? For you it might just some ‘timbak-timbak’ sport, but for us, it meant more. So I am a paintball ref. At least I had the courage enough to compete myself with the guys, seeing great games, meeting great players from all around the world. I got cursed at, I got scolded, I made bad calls.

You know what, you arrogant jerk? You missed the fun that I had. =)

Your past glory (well…itu pun menumpang jak ba nama pasukan ko..bukan urang kenal ko pun) is your past glory. I am just enjoying what I am doing at the moment.

As what my mentor always told me - “You kill suckers. We teach them.” and “Everyone can be a paintball player, but not everyone can be a paintball ref.”

Game On!!!!!!!!! ^_^V

Perhaps this is a classic story like any other families. Some people dislike their mother in laws, dad in laws, daughter in laws, son in laws....sister, brothers....for any kind of reasons. I never had the thinking in such way last time, but now I began to understand why some of my married friends dislike any particular person in their spouse's side of family.

I don't know what went wrong...previously she was a nice, sweet and soft spoken young lady that my whole family approved of...and in just an instant she was engaged to my brother, she turned into a mutant that really get unto the nerves to some of us.

Huhuhuh...ok....I will make sure that if I ever get married...I will be reminded that not all of my spouse's family will like me...and for sure...I am going to dislike some of them too. Just please tell me how to handle these people.... =.=

hehehehe....if you happen to read my blog, then you will notice this small bear on the right side of the page...cute kan??? =p

After almost 2 hours wondering how to create it...well I guess the results were not bad....

Us Against The World - Westlife

You and I, we’ve been at it so long
I still got the strongest fire
You and I, we still know how to talk
know how to walk that wire

Sometimes I feel like the world is against me
The sound of your voice baby that’s what saves me
When we’re together I feel so invincible

Chorus
‘Cause it’s us against the world
You and me against them all
If you’re listening to these words
Know that we are standing tall
I don’t ever see the day that I won’t catch you when you fall
‘Cause it’s us against the world tonight

Verse 2
There’ll be days we’ll be on different sides
But that doesn’t last too long
We find ways to get it on track
We know how to turn back on

Sometimes I feel I can’t keep it together
then you hold me close and you make it better
When I’m with you I can feel so unbreakable

Chorus

Bridge
We’re not gonna break ‘cause we both still believe
We know what we’ve got and we’ve got what we need alright
We’re doing something right
Bulleya (Junoon Cover) (Live) - Call

Ok...I know that this isn't really what most of you guys might think that I will listen to. This song is from a famous artist from Pakistan named Junoon (or is it a band or something). I was told that Junoon has made concerts around India, US and UK over sometime, so he must be real good! How about you be the judge? Here's the lyrics and translation. Enjoy listening! =)

Bulleya ki jaanan mein kaun
bulleya ki jaanan mein kaun
na mein momin wich maseetein
na mein wich kufr di reetan
na mein paakan wich paleet aan
na mein moosa na firoan
bulleya ki jaanan mein kaun
bulleya ki jaanan mein kaun

aawwal aakhir aap nun jaanan

mein tu wadd naa koi siyana
bulleya ho bulleya
bulleya ki jaanan mein kaun
bulleya ki jaanan mein kaun
na mein aabi na mein khaki
na mein aatish na mein poun
bulleya ki jaanan mein kaun
na mein paakan wich paleet aan
na mein moosa na firoan
bulleya ki jaanan mein kaun

Bulleya, who am I?
I am no believer in a mosque
And I have no pagan ways
I am not pure. I am not vile
I’m no Moses and I’m no Pharoah
Bulleya, who am I?

First and last, I see the self
I recognize no second to it
No one is more knowing than me
But, Bulleh, who is it that I am?
Bulleya, who am I?

Water nor dust are neither what makes me
I am not flame. I am not wind
I am not pure. I am not vile
I’m no Moses and I’m no Pharoah
Bulleya, who am I?

I can't seem to understand...why instead of good things to be said, we ended up said out words that will only hurt us both...

sometimes I just don't understand.
I wish that it will stop.
Can't bear this pain and hurtful feelings anymore.

Why I find it so hard...
Why it must be this complicated..
Why him, why me, why us?

I just wish that things will turn on better for tomorrow, I hope.
Far away - nickleback

This time, This place
Misused, Mistakes
Too long, Too late
Who was I to make you wait
Just one chance
Just one breath
Just in case there's just one left
'Cause you know,
you know, you know

[CHORUS]
That I love you
I have loved you all along
And I miss you
Been far away for far too long
I keep dreaming you'll be with me
and you'll never go
Stop breathing if
I don't see you anymore

On my knees, I'll ask
Last chance for one last dance
'Cause with you, I'd withstand
All of hell to hold your hand
I'd give it all
I'd give for us
Give anything but I won't give up
'Cause you know,
you know, you know

[CHORUS]

So far away
Been far away for far too long
So far away
Been far away for far too long
But you know, you know, you know

I wanted
I wanted you to stay
'Cause I needed
I need to hear you say
That I love you
I have loved you all along
And I forgive you
For being away for far too long
So keep breathing
'Cause I'm not leaving you anymore
Believe it
Hold on to me and, never let me go
Keep breathing
'Cause I'm not leaving you anymore
Believe it
Hold on to me and, never let me go
Keep breathing
Hold on to me and, never let me go
Keep breathing
Hold on to me and, never let me go

I know that I put you through hell
You deserve to be with someone else
But I gotta be straight up
Straight up
Girl I just wanna kiss and make up
We done been through a lot of things
How do you throw that away
You were the heart of me
Can't believe you'd let it break
Tell me why you won't let em go

You can say what you want but I know
Baby no more lies
I'ma keep it real this time

Help me understand
What I'm sayin and get through
Why I can't be your man
When I'd give up the world for you
Girl I'll do the best I can
Love you forever that's what I'd do
If I was your man
If I was your man
If I was your man

Got rid of everything that I know was hurting you
My heart, so many strings
Gave that up for you too
Don't want nothin' else in the way
I just wanna make sure that you stay
Baby no more lies
I'ma do it right this time

Help me understand
What I'm sayin and get through
Why I can't be your man
When I'd give up the world for you
Girl I'll do the best I can
Love you forever that's what I'd do
If I was your man
If I was your man
If I was your man

Can't live without you anymore
Baby I know that you're what I'm fightin' for
Baby say that you'll still be with me
In my arms is where you need to be
Can't live without you anymore
Baby I know that you're what I'm fightin' for
Baby say that you'll still be with me
In my arms is where you need to be

Na na na na na
Na na na na na na
If I was your man
If I was your man

Help me understand
What I'm sayin and get through
Why I can't be your man
When I'd give up the world for you
Girl I'll do the best I can
Love you forever that's what I'd do
If I was your man
If I was your man
If I was your man

I haven’t tried this cocktail before…even during my previous visit to Singapore (it was known as one of Singapore’s trademark - that’s why it was named so, I guess). Most probably it’s because I am too busy going here and there and forgot to put ‘pub’ in my checklist while my stay there.

So, recently I went to Upperstar with a good friend of mine and instead of ordering the same classic sets of beer, I decided to go for a cocktail instead. The taste of Upperstar’s Singapore Sling cocktail is a mixture of sweet and bitter, with a little hint of sour, served in a tall glass filled with ice, it’s pinkish colour surely is appealing (taken to the fact that pink is my color =p) It’s refreshing and I was thinking to serve it during our coming annual big family gathering, so I went to Goggle to find it’s recipe. What I found is amazing…there are several different recipes for the same cocktail (with slight changes here and there) and I really felt like wanted to bang my head on the wall for not thinking of tasting the original Singapore Sling during my previous visit to Singapore.

(Singapore Sling was originally created by Mr. Ngiam Tong Boon for the Raffles Hotel in Singapore).

Here are the most common ingredients used to make the Singapore Sling:

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 oz gin
  • 1 oz lemon juice
  • 1/4 oz sugar syrup
  • 1 1/2 tsp powdered sugar
  • 2 oz club soda
  • 1/2 oz cherry brandy
  • lemon slice for garnish
  • maraschino cherry for garnish
  1. Pour the gin, lemon juice, sugar syrup and powdered sugar into a shaker with ice cubes.
  2. Shake well.
  3. Strain into a highball glass with ice cubes.
  4. Pour in the club soda.
  5. Float the cherry brandy on top by pouring it over the back of a bar spoon.
  6. Garnish with the lemon slice and cherry

Bottom’s up, everyone! =)
