Earthquake, tsunami...and today when I read the newspaper at the front page of Daily Express, a newborn baby girl wrapped in a plastic bag was found dumped in the rubbish site at the Lok Kawi Industrial area. Thankfully, a lady happened to pass by and heard her cries and immediately came to the rescue.
A newborn.
A baby.
A life.
What has she done to deserve this?
How many are there longing for a child to brighten up their days in empty homes...while here, some people just simply dump it as if it was some worthless junk? How cruel can some people be? How could the mother be so heartless? After carrying her for 9 months now she just get rid of the baby like throwing her away to hide her wrongdoings? I might not know what's her problem but came to think about this, this is not the way to solve her problem. There are many other ways to go, but not resulted to murder her own flesh and blood.
It seems like the more modern the time is, the more uncivilized people had been. Barbaric. Cruel. Heartless. Stupid.

I almost lost Ichigo for good this morning. Apparently she followed my aunt to feed the dogs at the back this morning and suddenly the dogs just charged at her, and she scampered away to the corners of the boxes that contains old books. I spent almost 2 hours looking for her, worried and almost gave up when my aunt spotted her poke out her face quietly among the boxes. She was traumatized and shivering when I carried her into my arms and placed her in the basket with her favorite pillow.
The poor thing hardly got any peaceful sleep, and everytime she would toss and turned and woke up as if having a bad dream. But just now, she seemed to ease up a bit and had her dinner, then lay on the newspaper and sleep. Felt like I wanted to pick her up and place her back in her basket but then, I changed my mind and let her where she is.
What a day. This is her 2nd narrow escape with dogs. The first time is when my aunt's dog, Pinky crept into the house (someone forgot to close the gril), spot Ichigo sleeping near the shoe rack and when my sister went into the living room, she saw Ichigo was already in Pinky's jaws, didn't even make a sound or stir. When Pinky saw my sister, he immediately dropped Ichigo and went out. Ichigo spent the whole day hiding under the refrigerator that day.
She got 7 more lives left and hopefully this morning's ordeal will be the last. Couldn't afford to lose another pet again. Huhuhu....
My family loves kimchi, a type of Korean fermented vegetable. Everytime when we purchased a container of it, it won't last more than 2 days. We can eat it with rice, or mix with soup or dump it into the instant noodles. Don't underestimate by it's 'fermented' word to it. Kimchi is actually contains lactic acid that destroys harmful germs in our bodies, rich in fiber, good for our intestinal health, lowers cholesterol and low calories.
Since the family love it so much, I actually had tried to make a batch last week and produced a jar of kimchi, it wasn't up to my expectations but my aunt said it's just nice (but I still don't think so!). Since now it's already gone down to half jar left (my godness, I think I need a tajau suda ni!) so I decided to make some more. Afterall, buying kimchi from the stores are kinda costly and when I searched for its recipe in the internet, all it needs are just some little work and patience, then you can have your very own kimchi in the kitchen! So, here's my own version of kimchi, to suit the 'sabahan' taste a bit.

Half cup of salt, chili powder, garlic and fish sauce (3-5 tablespoons).
Note: I am using rock sea salt here, so it's very salty and the fish sauce too was salty. If you don't have fish sauce, it's okay. You can replace it with another 1/4 cup of salt. If you are using fine salt, you need at least please add another 1/2 cup from the above measurements. As for garlic, you may also add ginger if you like. But I prefer garlic more so I didn't put ginger this time. There are no specific measurements how much garlic or ginger needed, you may put as much as you like.
I am making 2 types of kimchi this time. Chinese cabbage + white radish (Ration 1:1) but you can also use just plain radish, or only the chinese cabbages (you can also use the normal cabbages if you like). Again, it's up to you.
2nd one is Chinese cabbage + china green radish..again, I'm using the 1:1 ratio. If any of you never been to the market before, take this photo and show it to the vegetable seller and tell them this is what you want. =p
Peel and cut the radishes about 1 - 1.5 inches long. Not to thin or too small though as the fermentation process will make the bits getting smaller.

Clean and cut the chinese cabbages, also in about 2 inches size. I prefer to leave the leafy part bigger than the stem. No worries about the size now as it will get smaller during the fermentation period.

Mix cabbage and radish in a basin or big bowl. Put salt in (leaving only about 3-4 tablespoons for later use) and toss it with your hands as you would do with making salads. Gently squeeze it while mixing with the salt. After every bit of the vegetable seemed to be coated with salt, pour some water and let it sit for about an hour.

Garlic chopped. I love it this way, but you can leave it whole cloves with only the skin peeled off if you don't like to have bits of garlic in every bite. Up to you lah....

Mix it all with some water to make a fine paste (not too thick or too watery). You may taste it and just add more salt, chilli power, garlic according to your taste.
Okay, here's the messy part. Drain the vegetables and rinse it once with water, drain again. Put it in a basin and pour in the paste and mix it with your hands. (Make sure your hands are really clean aaa....) Owh, you may also add some spring onions to add some color if you want to.
Ah yes, do not throw away the brine (excess water from the mixing bowl). Pour it into the jar as well.
This is the 2nd jar. I made 2 jars altogether. Seal the bottle/jar with a plastic bag but don't capped it too tight as there will be air bubbles formed and it might leak a bit after a day or two. Place it in a cool, dark place for 2-3 days and you can put it in the refrigerator after. The longer it fermented, the tangier it gets. ^^

Tada!!! This is how it looks like when it's done and ready to eat! Well, actually this one's is from my 1st batch...it doesn't look nice though..hehehehe....amatur baa....
Kimchi is good as an additional flavor to the soup (especially fish), or just simply serve it cold as a side dish for your meal, or you can make kimchi fried rice!
Have a nice day everyone! =)

It's funny to know that sometimes, there are some people are doing lots of things just to impress the person that they fancied. A guy that never loves cats, suddenly taken interest about it. A lady who has no idea what jungle trekking is suddenly found herself scaling the jungle, slapping away mosquitoes and hoping that will impress the guy.
I bet some of you readers out there must knew anyone that been through this. I remember there is a lady who could have sworn herself that she can't eat meat (not by religious obligation, she just can't take it cause she said meat makes her nauseous) suddenly dragged her friend to KFC to 'learn how to enjoy meat', well...chicken at least because the guy that she fancies loves meat, a lot.
Then there is this guy who knew that the lady that he fancies loves animal, then he made a 'special' date to bring her to the pet shop and could give her a detailed explanations to all animals that's on sale in the cages more than the pet shop owner himself. Impressive(?).
Well, for one thing, it is good if the changes of new interest might give benefit or taken as new hobby for that someone. Learn something new. If that guy loves scaling every unexplored jungle tracks and this lady follows suit just to be with him, it's a positive turn if she began to love it as well and pursue this as her new interest.
What if we don't like it but still have to 'love it because the other person likes it so much'?
Why force ourselves to love something that we don't...and we don't talk about if the other party has kids (well, that's another issue and non-exceptional too). But we are talking about the interest. Sometimes we don't need to share the same interest to get together. It's an added advantage if we do, but if we don't, why force ourselves?
Ok, some of you readers out there might say "Aiya AngeLBeaR...if you don't get to learn and explore about their interest, then how you know what they like? How to communicate? Tak kenal maka tak cinta maaaa...." Ya laaaa...but do we have to get ourselves involved? Just because the other person likes to play paintball and the girl is not for she's doesn't fancy getting shot, get down and dirty for all the paintball has to offer, does she has to force herself and join, in the end crying out from the field? There's a difference between genuinely love the hobby or faking it. Yeah, you read me. Faking it. Impressive one can do it as seem its real, but totally not a good image when it seems fake. Normally, it shows. Believe me, the fakeness shows.
My sister in law, Tracy doesn't play. But you can't bluff her about paintball thingy. At least she knew the basic safety rules and regulations. She would scold the person herself if she saw any unsafe acts. Not just because she's part of the KKPC management too, but her key is - she listens and observes. She doesn't have to play. Can't remember if she did fired a single shot! Hehehehe...I knew other ladies who escorted their husbands or boyfriends did the same as well. My brother loves her for just that. Else he would have not married her at the first place, right?
One doesn't have to be into the thing that the other party loves if you don't have any single interest to join it. But we don't turn blind eyes on it either, so at least that other person would have appreciated that you can be someone they can count on. Ask what is bowling is all about, why it interests him/her so much or why that football player got a penalty kick, and so on. This way, it's a win-win situation - the other party gains new knowledge, yet don't have to get exactly involved with it; the other one finds someone who's interested to know about their interests and knew that there is someone supported him/her in what ever they do.
Just because the other person loves guns then does this other person has to start get a gun license and do shooting ranges?!? What next? After the relationship didn't work out then how about the items that was heavily invested? Or the cat that no longer looks cute, the dog seemed to be more irritating and an eyesore eventhough he was sleeping on the front porch, that poor mutt suddenly looked more like a piece of junk.
And yes, even by means to impress, please do not sound as if you knew everything (if you really don't)...else you might sounded more like an idiot than to impress. Ask - it won't hurt to ask rather than make one look stupid by babbling something that is somewhat not interesting or wrong info.
I always got this remark "Paintballing? You mean shooting? Yeah, I shoot as well. It feels good to be able to shoot anything in the jungle. Eh, can purchase that gun to shoot stray dogs outside my house kah? Bring your paintball gun lah, then we try!" Strike 1 - Hunting and paintballing are 2 different things; Strike 2 - It's a 'marker' so marker is not meant to be used to kill/injure people/living things/cause damage to private property; Strike 3 - I don't fancy bringing a paintball marker to shot anything outside the field. 3 strikes, you're OUT!
Why we tried to hard to be someone else when being ourselves is much more easier? If that someone can't accept us for who we are, what's the reason of being together? Is it worth it to do things we didn't like to be, be someone we didn't want to be; or the changes brings more pressures than pleasures - and yet we are forced to do it because we think we had to? Does the other person appreciate us being ourselves and love things we love to do or otherwise?
Think about it.
